Shyness can arise from feelings of inadequacy and fear of laughter or negative judgments from other children. Often these negative responses are imagined, but imagined or not they interfere with children’s ability to learn and communicate. It is important to help children disconnect their shyness from being a shameful and irreparable condition, to being a present feeling related to concern about the responses of others.
